At the Advanced Holistic Center, we take the COVID-19 pandemic seriously, and to address the issues of those individuals who are unable to travel to our office, we now make house calls!
Acupuncture In Your Own Home
Whether acupuncture practitioners use acupuncture, tui na (acupressure, Chinese massage), gua sha, herbs, or therapeutic exercises, the most valuable tools are their skills and knowledge, which are easy to carry. While in some cases positioning of patients is important for a successful treatment outcome, such as lower back pain, for example, which can be easier achieved in the medical office setting, we use portable equipment that allows us to reproduce a similar to the office setting in the home environment. At the same time, there are also instances in which the home environment is best for treatment, such as emotional issues or when patients have trouble moving. Wherever we treat our patients, we want them to be as comfortable as possible.
Research has shown that a beneficial side effect of home visits is the reduced number of hospitalizations. These studies focus on home visits made by nurses (Coppa, Winchester & Roberts, 2018; Smits et al., 2020), rather than acupuncturists, however acupuncturists spend seven or eight years studying traditional Chinese medicine alongside with western allopathic medicine. While they do not prescribe drugs or or complete surgical procedures, acupuncturists are trained to identify various health issues that may require immediate attention and sometimes can even provide a temporary relief.
Latest research has shown that acupuncture can be even more effective—while also increasing the efficacy of various medical procedures and reducing their side effects—when it’s combined with medical treatments (Lin, Wan & Jamison, 2017). In certain situations, such as before and/or after an embryo transfer or after specific types of surgery, individuals may not be able to travel to and from the office, and so home visits are the best option.
Many people prefer to turn to acupuncture and other methods of traditional Chinese medicine for beauty treatments in the form of home visits, rather than to have the procedure done in the office. Actors, artists, athletes, musicians, and actors may need to request home or other locations to fit in their itinerary of scheduled tours, training, recitals, and rehearsals.
In addition, patients request a home visit for one issue, and acupuncturists find something else. For example, several times already, while examining a patient whose complaint was lower back pain, acupuncturists discovered that the cause of pain was either liver (hepatitis) or kidney (kidney stone), and patients needed to go to the hospital.
We realize that it may be difficult to weigh all the pros and cons of home visits in each individual case, and that’s why we’re here for you. If you’re considering requesting a home visit, but you’re unsure if that’s the best treatment option for you, or you’d like to inquire about the prices, then please feel free to contact the Advanced Holistic Center. We’ll be happy to answer all your questions.
